This term, Beech class have been exploring what pictures can show us about the relationship between people. We have been looking at paintings John Moore and photos linked to our SEAL topics. We used this as inspiration to create our own art work based on our families. Here are some photos of our Art Work.

Spring Term in Ash Class Print
Tuesday, 31 March 2009 09:27

What have Ash class been up to since Christmas?

We have been busy finding out about Food. This has meant we have been able to eat and try lots of different food.

The children have enjoyed making bread rolls, biscuits, Gingerbread men, sandwiches and jelly. The children came up with the idea of having a party. We decided we would do this for a toy. So the children got busy writing invitations and planning what to make for the tea. Our classroom looked as if we were having a street party when all the children were seated with their toy. I don’t know who ate all the food but some toys had crumbs around their mouths!

We couldn’t have made these delicious items without visiting the local shops to purchase the ingredients. So every Friday morning complete with wellies we all set off to the shops.

I think the Friday shoppers became used to seeing us in our reflective jackets and we were often asked “where are you going to today?”

We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the shops who made us feel welcome especially Mortimers, the Co-op for giving us refreshments and a wonderful tour of their store. Also Waitrose for their Goodie bags when they presented us with a cheque for the school from their community fund project.

Holly Class 2009

Holly class have been very busy since Christmas !

We started off by finding out all about Native North American Indians.
We read a lot of myths and legends from North America as well as making up our own stories about animals.
We really enjoyed ourselves when we told stories in our class tepee wearing our story hats and pretending to be North American Indians!
We made story maps and feathered sticks to help us to write our stories.

Did you know? -
North American Indian children used to make story sticks using bark and other wood before telling their stories?

One of our favourite activities was designing and making our own totem poles using ‘recycled' materials.

We all really enjoyed our North American Indian project.

Now we have moved onto Nature.
We have already started to find out about how plants grow and what they need to be healthy.
Alongside this we are looking at Traditional Tales so watch out for a ‘new version' of Jack and the Beanstalk. I wonder if he'll be climbing up an enormous sunflower?
What will he find at the top? Perhaps a lady giant?

We have been using our sketchbooks to draw objects from nature and hopefully as the weather improves we will be able to use our grounds more to explore our own environment and create some interesting art works.

We look forward to the next few weeks and are definitely going to continue to enjoy ourselves...

Spring Term in Hazel Class Print
Tuesday, 31 March 2009 09:06

This term Hazel class have had some new faces. Miss Clark joined us after Christmas and Leah has joined us after half term. We have welcomed them both into the class by being very kind.

Last half term we learnt about how to stay healthy. We learnt all about the different food groups and the types of food that we need to eat to stop us getting sick. We had a tasting session and tried lots of different fruit and vegetables including kiwi, mango, tomato, beetroot and melon. We liked a lot of them, but some of us pulled some very funny faces when we found one we didn't like!

We designed some vehicles for fairy tale characters. We designed them first and investigated how we could try and make them move.

We practised our finishes and finally we made them. Do you know which fairy tale characters they were for?

This half term we are learning all about Florence Nightingale. We have been listening to stories about her, investigating her on the computers, reading non-fiction books about her and we have even been pretending to be her in our hospital role play area.

Our class is home to Year 4. Mr D is our teacher and we also have help from Mrs Jarvis and Mrs Grasby. We have the cool classroom downstairs.

This term, Beech class have been investigating life in Ancient Greece. We have explored what made the Greek army so powerful.

During one of our lessons, we made armour and weapons based on those used by the Ancient Greeks.
