Ashlands School
is situated on the north side of the Somerset
market town of Crewkerne. With our partner First School
in the town it serves the community of Crewkerne and
some outlying districts. Ashlands was founded in the
late nineteenth century and became a first school in
1972.
It is a co-educational day school for pupils aged 4-9
years. At the age of 9 our pupils transfer to Maiden
Beech Middle
School in the town.
As this
is a Voluntary Controlled School, the Church of England
is represented on the Governing Body.
School Building and Grounds
In the main Victorian Building there are five
classrooms, hall, Head teacher's office, computer suite,
library, school office,
additional work and resource areas and staffroom.
The two large playgrounds are to the rear of the main
buildings. A new children's centre is sited to the rear
of the school.
The grounds offer good facilities for the study of
living things. There are grassed areas, mature trees,
hedges, shrubs, a "wild area"
and a wildlife pond, all of which can be used in our
programmes of study.
The owners of the large car park at the rear of the
school have kindly agreed to allow parents to use this
area when delivering or collecting their children.
